Whitestown
Whitestown is a town in Indiana in the United States. The population was 2,867 at the census in 2010. The city is located off Interstate 65, about 35 miles northwest of downtown Indianapolis and about 11 miles from the northern boundary of Indianapolis, between Exits 130 and 133. From 2010 to the present, Whitestown is the fastest growing city in Indiana, with a population that more than doubled between 2010 and 2017.
History
Whitestown was founded in 1851 during the then expansion of the railroad. It was probably named after Albert Smith White, a U.S. senator from Indiana. The first post office in Whitestown was established in 1853.
At the end of 2000, Whitestown added 6,500 acres south of the historic city center. In 2005, a mixed-use master development plan was built in the area, named after U.S. Army officer and landowner Boone County Anson Mills. The Great Recession is affecting the original Anson construction scheme, but residential, retail and commercial growth has accelerated since 2011 and continues to this day. Anson’s growth now has many retail opportunities, including the Meijer supermarket, the Lowe’s DIY store, and several fashion and lifestyle stores including Burlington, Shoe Dept. Encore, TJ Maxx, Hobby Lobby and Lima. below.
